Lighthouse lovers have a place of pilgrimage: the State of Maine. There are more than 60 of this idillic buildings in the state. The oldest one is the Portland Head Light, which history started more than 200 years ago in the Town of Cape Elisabeth.

This is a must see for those who explore the city of Portland, in Maine. It is not only worth visiting the lighthouse, but also its surroundings. The Portland Head Light is located in a natural area called Fort Williams Park.

Visiting Fort Williams Park and Portland Head Light

During our visit we thought that it was a perfect place to spend the day. While some people were swimming on the beach, others were practicing sports or enjoying an outdoor picnic. We preferred to go hiking next to the sea, where we were amazed by stunning views.

If you decide to stop by the area, you should check the visiting hours of this picturesque site. Usually, it is open from sunrise to sunset. Even so, if you want to know more information or learn a bit of its history, click here.

Visiting the Portland Head Light is a great opportunity to disconnect from everything and enjoy the nature by the sea. If you end up your day having a clam chowder and the famous lobster roll of New England, I am sure you will want to go back!
